'Eländes Elände' is the second album from Second Sun. The Swedish band fronted by Jakob Ljungberg (ex Tribulation) combines influences of space rock, progressive rock and hard rock from the late 70´s to the early 80´s to their own unique blend of hypnotizing rock. The bands debut album 'Hopp/Förtvivlan' was released by American label Electric Assault and directly created a buzz around the band. There are higher peaks and deeper valleys on new new album. It´s a demanding album without being complex or fragmented. The tracks ranges from a Nazareth styled hard rock disco track 'Vems Fel' to a more restrained Can meets the Stranglers in 'No Respect'. The album 'Eländes Elände' enables a part of the nerdy music history to a large group of listeners. Second Sun recorded half of the album ('Noll Respekt', 'Sång till En Slagen Kämpe', 'Enda Sunda Människan i Världen' and 'Du Ska Se Att Det Blir Sämre') with Olle Granat. When recording the first half the band included Jakob Ljungberg, Adam Lindfors (Dead Lord), Sofia Rydahl (ex Gravmaskin) and Marcus Hedman (ex Moralens Väktare). After the first half of the recording session, Sofia left the band and the band added guitarist David Grannas to their ranks. The rest of the album was recorded by Robert Pehrsson (Robert Pehrson's Humbucker, Death Breath & Dundertåget). The recording got a rougher approach on the second part that gives the album a very lively feeling. Second Sun have made an album where they find common ground with Camel, early Judas Priest and Jethro Tull.

Press Quotes

The band, consisting of ex-Tribulation drummer Jakob Ljungberg, who has become a guitarist and vocalist, has actually produced a very own sound based on that of the 70's , but still sounds quite fresh, like a crossover of Hard Rock , Prog and slightly easier folk-influenced styles.

Singing in Swedish adds sunshine and sun rays through the haze and fog of this psychedelic rock extravaganza! If you like retro rock, heavy rock, psychedelic. Search no more.

     —Metal Temple, http://www.metal-temple.com/site/catalogues/entry/

There are songs from proto-metal to the most psychedelic rock possible, and everything in between. The outcome is an album full of personality, even more so because they sing in Swedish.

For deg som er åpen for lefling med 70-tallets progressive hard-rock, på svensk, utfört med en sterk vilje som gir dem bonuspoeng fordi de klarer å höres annerledes ut.

There is a fair old mix of sounds here, with more than enough to please grey haired Prog-heads who long for the days of Camel and youngsters who just want to ironically dig some retro vibes alike.

     —Ave Noctum, http://www.avenoctum.com/2018/09/second-sun-elande

These guys sound fresh all the way, you never get boring with them, not even when they get more technical and I guess it is all thanks to the great task they do of pasting melodies with the rest of the parts in their compositions.

     —Metal Brothers, http://metalbrothers.es/criticas/the-review/second

Just name a seventies rock band and it is in some way cited on this record in a way that will make even the most melancholic low-life go jumping through the room with a big smile.

     —Lords of Metal, http://www.lordsofmetal.nl/en/reviews/view/id/3767

If you like psych revival that never neglects the melodic component but is also not afraid to rock it hard at times, then Second Sun are definitely a band you want to watch out for.
