This CD features the original cast recording of two London hit shows from 1954, both with a Parisian theme - Wedding in Paris, the come-back vehicle for Evelyn Laye - first lady of the West End; and Can-Can, an American import by Cole Porter. Although successful, Wedding in Paris has never been revived in London or played on Broadway so this only recording and first time on CD is a welcome for all show fans. Co-starring film star Anton Walbrook, who joined the show from another West End success Call Me Madam, and supported by the pair of young lovers Jeff Warren and Susan Swinford, Wedding in Paris has an infectious score but the star of the show is undeniably Evelyn Laye whose two solo numbers "A Man Is A Man" and "In The Pink" are wonderful. Can-Can starred French import Irene Hilda and Edmund Hockridge, the Canadian born leading man of West End musicals of the 1950s and still going strong. 50 years later, show-stoppers such as "C'est Magnifique", "I Love Paris", "I Am In Love", "Allez-Vous En, Go Away", "It's All Right With Me" still sparkle, a testament to the genius of Cole Porter. Bonus tracks include Anton Walbrook's "La Ronde De L'Amour" and Edmund Hockridge singing songs from Carousel, a show he starred in the West End. All tracks have been re-mastered using the CEDAR system and the 16 page booklet includes notes by Edmund Hockridge and production photos.
