On her fifth recording, Marty teams up with the veteran bassist Mike Richmond. They went into the studio with Mike's 170 year-old Tyrolean bass and his 120 year-old Czechoslovakian cello to create this delightful outing.

Although the ten songs included in 'Tis Autumn' were written between 1926 and 1947, in the capable hands of Elkins and Richmond the songs have a fresh, contemporary edge. 'Tis Autumn', 'Stairway to the Stars', the playful, interactive version of 'When The Red, Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin' Along' and'I Ain't Got Nothin' But The Blues' are highlights.

Marty Elkins' affinity for these gems and her straight-ahead, soulful interpretations imbue these songs with a timeless feel, and Mike Richmond conjures an entire orchestra with his bass. The spaciousness of the voice/bass pairing is intimate but resonates with a deep musicality that can only be realized in the hands of masters like Elkins and Richmond.

Press Quotes

Up for come cabaret without the tortured artist effect? The vocalist and the stand up bass player team up for a delightfully unstated set that has them traversing the classic songbook but giving it a different flavor than recent vintage divas mining it bring to the table. With decades of impeccable chops in both of their old kit bags, this is one of those dates that could have been recorded in their sleep but was done when they were wide awake. Solid.
