Post-war Broadway audiences and sophisticated New Yorkers knew Lisa Kirk well; she starred in Rodgers & Hammerstein's 'Allegro' and when that closed was asked by Cole Porter to play Lois Lane/Bianca in 'Kiss Me, Kate'. She also appeared in cabaret in night clubs and frequently appeared at the Persian Room in the Plaza Hotel. The 1950s were busy times for Lisa Kirk. Apart from theatre and cabaret appearances she made recordings for major labels such as RCA Victor and MGM, and was active in the early days of television appearing in such series as Studio One, Kraft Television Theatre, The Colgate Comedy Hour and General Electric Theatre. Teamed with The 4 Saints, four dancers/singers, and a young Musical Director Don Pippin, Lisa toured the USA including London with her act to great success. There were more Broadway shows including 'Mack and Mabel' and one final appearance in London in 1989 in Cole Porter's 'Nymph Errant' in concert with an all star cast. She died a year later. 'Lisa Kirk sings at The Plaza' is a recording of her act conducted by Tony-award winner Don Pippin who shares his memories of Lisa in the liner notes. The record was first released in 1958 and this is the first CD issue and in stereo. Bonus tracks include singles Lisa recorded from the world of music theatre - "Little Girl Blue", "But Not For Me", "My Funny Valentine", "O-hi-o", and "A Heart To Call My Own" and "A Smile And A Ribbon" - two songs from a 1956 TV production 'The Human Touch'.
