In this album, it finds Richman and Johnson exploring clever covers, as well as well-crafted, hooky originals. This duo transforms a familiar melody into a dark and joyful textural piece, filled with wicked nylon strums and steely picked solos spinning off in unexpected directions. Other key covers take on some of the best recent songwriting, in a hopping, brisk reinvention of Shawn Colvin's "Sunny Came Home" and a stark, gentle harmony-laden take on Bonnie Raitt's heartbreaking "I Can't Make You Love Me." The duo's originals range from Johnson's cleverly revolving, swampy "Tumbling" to Richman's lush, traveling soundscape "Let This Be the One." Perhaps the best illustrating the spirit of this album is Johnson's "Keeping the Dream Alive," with a dreamy, cowboy-romantic melody that Bruce Hornsby might be singing. This technically wondrous effort holds the kind of lovely melodies and details that even pop fans will enjoy. Jeff Richman's extensive professional background includes performing, composing, arranging and recording music in many genres. He lived and performed in New York City with Conga player, Ray Barretto. Toured with Flora Purim and Airto and has played with Chico Hamilton, Deodato, Blood Sweat and Tears, Willie Bobo and Gerry Mulligan, Ronnie Laws, Doc Severnson's band, Ernie Watts, Harvey Mason, T Lavitz, John Klemmer, Alfonse Mouzon, Henry Mancini, Mark Isham, Robbie Krieger and M'shell Ndugucello, Billy Cobham, Russell Ferrante, William Kennedy and Jimmy Haslip. Grammy Winner Wayne Johnson joined the pop/jazz vocal group, Manhattan Transfer, after attending Berklee College of Music in the late 70's. Since then, Wayne has taken plenty of time off from the gig to keep his solo interests alive. Wayne's "Trio", with Bill Berg on drums and Jimmy Johnson on bass. Wayne has performed & recorded with Rickie Lee Jones as well as Lee Oskar of "War".
