Demon Head - Thunder On The Fields

Nothing sounds quite like the doom-tinged heavy rock of Demon Head! It doesn't want to escape the listeners cranium!

Demon Head's new album THUNDER ON THE FIELDS were recorded by the Copenhagen band onto 16-track tape, in an isolated cabin where they locked themselves in for weeks in the winter of 2016. Like its well-received predecessor Ride The Wilderness (This Charming Man Records), the fruit of their communal work is powerfully crafted from start to finish. While the sound stays true to the sinister atmosphere of the debut album, the music has evolved to the next logical step: darker, more tight-knitted, and more diverse. Demon Head is not about trends or imitation. It is about the burning love for music. While in part an homage to the first heavy music, the songs have their own voice. The attitude is of originality and urgency rather than pretense. Since the beginning, the band has relentlessly travelled on the road and off the beaten path, playing loud, wild concerts with bands from many genres and scenes. In the same way, the influences on THUNDER ON THE FIELDS are hard to pinpoint; many have experienced that nothing sounds quite like the doom-tinged heavy rock of Demon Head, while it retains a strange familiarity of haunting melodies that don't seem to want to escape the listeners cranium. Comparison is always difficult and limiting, but you might get an idea of the direction if you imagine if the tour bus of Judas Priest had crashed into a whiskey bar where The Doors and Neil Young throw dice with the devil, while The Stooges cover Big Mama Thornton on the decrepit corner stage.

Press Quotes

this shows that Rock isn't dead - or metal, and I applaud the band for broadening their attempts at resurrecting the formula in a modernized development

     —Metal Temple, http://www.metal-temple.com/site/catalogues/entry/

This is pure, dedicated talent without a lot of bells and whistles. This is how music should always be, no matter what genre you're into.

     —Metalhead Alliance, https://metalheadalliance.wixsite.com/mhaofficial/

Thunder on the Fields is an album of darkened storytelling which so far this year has been missing

     —Metal Observer, http://www.metal-observer.com/3.o/review/demon-hea

Demon Head's version of nefarious proto-doom, is a welcome throwback for the modern age. They have a way of admirably channeling that vibe much like early Witchcraft did.

     —Taste Nation, http://tastenationllc.com/demon-head-thunder-on-th

Demon Head is a sensational and wonderful group, that really knows how to enlarge the magnificent artistry of the genre, and with such a sonorous richness and abundance, that you inevitably wishes everybody to discover their sound!

     —Merchants of Air, http://www.merchantsofair.com/reviews/demon-head-t

The band's best trait is its way of accenting extensions: they never quite give you what you expect, and this keeps things loose and original. When playing music that sounds like it was recorded forty years ago, this is a crucial technique.

     —New Noise Magazine, https://newnoisemagazine.com/review-demon-head-thu

Their sound is a marvellously memorable mix of rockin' riffing, Danzig-esque vocals and heady hooks, which will embed themselves into your memory, plus there's an occult, organic nod to the past without sounding like a retro throwback.

     —Iron Fist Magazine, http://www.ironfistzine.com/2017/03/16/into-battle

'DEMON HEAD. check out the tempo change at 3;13, very cool.'

—Fenriz - Band of the week, https://www.facebook.com/bandoftheweekblog/posts/1

A'n effective collection retro doom-and-gloom songs, making this another gem of a proto-metal record'
